In connection with the Iraqi learning context, UNESCO reported that many difficulties and challenges are usually faced by university students in the Iraqi learning environment and contexts in terms of the learning intellectual infrastructure and method to teach science subjects. This study considered the main aspects of intrinsic motivation, control of learning, task value, and interaction resulted from the cognitive load by using mobile learning in effecting learners’ engagement and performance in learning activities. A total of 145 responses from Baghdad University and Al-Mustansiriya University were used for examining the research hypotheses. This research utilizes the quantitative methods where questionnaires as research instrument were used with selected respondents. The results showed that students’ cognitive load to use mobile is correlated with their intrinsic motivation, control of learning, task value, and interaction. The results also revealed that these relations had positive effects on students’ engagement and performance. The researcher also found that students’ engagement is effectively influenced students’ performance in mobile learning context. It can be summated that using mobile learning can provide an alternative opportunity for Iraqi students to learn and extend their knowledge related to computer science subjects. This finding can be generalized into other subjects whereas students’ cognitive load with mobile was asserted to be associated with some motivational and interaction aspects. Keeping this in mind, the researcher proposed that mobile learning can help facilitate the process of these cognitive schemas in which presenting information in chunked display can serve the purpose of balancing students’ intrinsic cognitive load and germane load.en_US
