Although various naturally occurring microorganisms are capable of producing polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs), microbes with the ability to synthesize PHAs that contain predominantly 3-hydroxyvalerate monomers are rare. This study reports on the biosynthesis and characterization of poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) [P(3HB-co-3HV)] copolymers with high 3HV composition by Chromobacterium sp. USM2. This interesting strain was isolated from the freshwater samples of the famous Telaga Tujuh Waterfalls at Langkawi Island.en_US
