This project presents about the design of the low-cost AC/DC converter which will produce constant 12-24V DC output voltage. This constant output voltage can be used for low voltage application. The objectives for this design are simplicity, efficiency, stability and compact size. Based on these objectives, the SS converter topology is chosen to be designed as it draws much attention because of its cost effectiveness as the absence of transformer includes the less power losses, high efficiency and good power factor. In this project, a buck converter is used as PFC cell and buck-boost converter is used as DC-DC cell. This proposed integrated buck and buck-boost converter able to produce less intermediate bus voltage and by designing the PI controller the voltage can be kept at constant value for the various output values. The switching control technique of the proposed buck-boost AC-DC converter is simplified for the switches to drive. The output voltage of the converter is also regulated by PI controller. As a result, the proposed converter is operated with high efficiency for the low voltage application. In order to verify this design methodology, the buck buck-boost is tested in simulation stage by using MATLAB Simulink is used to generate results. From the simulations, When the output power and output voltage is at 150 W and 19 Vdc, the PF, ƞ, THDi and Vbus is 0.951, 89.7%, 85.1%, and 111.4 Vdc, where it was observed that the proposed single-phase AC/DC converter has more than 80% efficiency and above 0.95 power factor.en_US
