Abstract
One of the major problems faced by the today’s hospital is the lack of effective technique to monitor multiple patients’ health condition. In case of a large hospital where multiple patients need to be monitored simultaneously, a separate monitoring system for each patient is un-effective and inefficient way. There has to be a system or mechanism by which medical staff can monitor the patients’ condition at any instant of time and update patients’ health. Therefore, IoT – healthcare monitoring system is proposed to develop a system that can monitor multiple patients’ health parameters simultaneously and effectively deliver the data to a patient monitoring system where it is stored permanently. The designed system enables doctors to monitor patients whenever in hospital or out of the premises. This system consists of temperature sensor and pulse rate sensor for measurement of 2 recognized vital signs. The measured data from the sensors are processed on NodeMCU Board before transmit and store at server for further observation. Web GUI application is designed to display the data and health status of the patients. In addition, this healthcare monitoring also alerts the doctor/nurse for some measured value taken exceed normal behaviour. Several testing are conducted to evaluate the performance of the system which are functionality of overall system and sensor accuracy test. The accuracy of the sensors for developed system are evaluated through comparing the measurement with conventional medical device, Omron Hem-7023 and SaniTherm thermometer for pulse rate and body temperature respectively. Ten volunteers from USM’s student are invited to test the functionality of the system. As a conclusion, the functionality of the healthcare system in this study is proven and having high potential in providing better healthcare services to the patients.
