Heterogenation of porhyrin metal complexes were effected by immobilizing onto inorganic silica support from rice husk ash via 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES). These catalysts were denoted as RHAC-CoPor and RHAC-NiPor. These insoluble mesoporous hybrid materials, RHAC-CoPor and RHAC-NiPor showed high specific surface area of 114 m2g-1 and 190 m2g-1, respectively. The prepared catalysts possessed a narrow pore size distribution centered at around 4.17 nm for RHAC-CoPor and 4.90 nm for RHAC-NiPor. The 13C CP/MAS NMR showed the catalysts had three chemical shifts in the range of 12 – 47 ppm consistent with the three carbon atoms of the propyl group, and a series of chemical shifts in the range of δ = 100 - 170 ppm consistent with the presence of the porphyrin metal complexes. Elemental analysis showed the successful immobilization of the porphyrin metal complexes onto functionalized silica support. Their catalytic activities were tested in the liquid phase oxidation of benzyl alcohol with the green oxidant, H2O2. RHACCoPor exhibited excellent catalytic activity when used for the oxidation of benzyl alcohol. The reaction resulted in a benzyl alcohol conversion of 97.1 % and 97.7 % selectivity towards benzaldehyde under ambient temperature of 343 K with 80 mg of catalyst and 1:1.5 molar ratio of reactant over 5 h.en_US
