Abstract
Generator is an electric machine that converts mechanical power to electrical power. Either AC or DC, both generators produce electrical power following the same principle of Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction. Basic working principle of DC generator works whereby the rotating coil is moving inside the magnetic field cutting the flux line, thus the electromagnetic force is induced. In this project, a modification is made to the DC generator in which an effect of rotating the stator in the electrical machine system will be investigated. The designed generator is different from the conventional one where only rotor is rotating, and the stator is fixed. In this project, a modelled generator is tested to find the difference when only rotor rotates and when both rotor and stator rotates in opposite direction, one clockwise another anti-clockwise. Other measurements such as when only rotor rotates, when only stator rotates and when both rotor and stator rotates in same direction are also measured. The procedures and the experimental results with prototype of the generator are discussed in this study. Theoretically it is predicted that the voltage output when both rotor and stator rotates in opposite direction should give double the value when only rotor rotates, due to the doubled relative speed of rotation that causes doubled magnet flux cut.
