dc.description.abstract | Pondok Tanjung Forest Reserve (PTFR) consists of a swamp forest (Pondok Tanjung) and a muddy_area (Redang Panjang). The habitats in PTFR were suitable for the growth and distribution of Cryptocoryne species. The widespread distribution of Cryptocoryne elliptica Hook. f. and Crypt?coryne minima Ridl. including its five varieties was recorded in PTFR. Cryptocoryne elliptica was more dominant than Q. minima in Redang Panjang and grew well in the muddy soil (70% silt, 20% clay, 10% sand). Whereas Q. minima (five varieties), was found to be more abundant in Pondok Tanjung area than Redang Panjang. The physico-chemical factors which include pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and temperature in PTFR were studied. also The distribution data analysis for the two Cryptocoryne species was studied using Polar Ordination System based on percentage coverage values indicated that the two species could be divi~ed into six sample unit (SU) groups. Whilst using cluster analysis, the rating values based on dendrogram showed that the grouping of th~ two species studied could be divided into three groups. In the group 1, 17 SU were observed. Five SU consisted Q. minima with a rating value of 5. Five SU with a rating value of 3, and seven SU with the same spec{es has a rating value of 2; all these rating values were included in group I. In group 2, 38 SU were observed. Four SU have rating value of 1 consisted only ~- minima and four SU from ~- elliptica have also a rating value of 1, was included in group 2. Thirty SU with rating value 0 consisted of the two Cryptocoryne species, but they did not occupy the same quadrat. Group 3 has a total of 32 SU. Eight SU were ~- elliptica with a rating value of 5. Five SU with a rating value of 3 consisted of both species. Seventeen SU with a rating value of 2 and two SU with a ·rating value of 1 from ~- elliptica. From the seed germination study in the final percentage germination; muddy soil substrate (70% silt, 20 % clay and 10% sandy), riverine sandy substrate (100% sand) and tap water (control) occured within 11 weeks. During this period 100 % germination was observed for the ~- minima ' seeds which were embedded in muddy soil substrate. While in riverine sandy substrate and tap water, only 86.6 % germinated at the same time. From this study, only ~. minima seeds were collected from the field and grown in the laboratory. During the duration. of the studied period, ~· elliptica seeds were unobtainable. | en_US |
