Abstract
This research was performed to : identify local plants which contain alkaloid and with active anti-H. pylori activities; fractionate and elute alkaliods from extract of a selected plant; evaluate selected fraction with regards to its toxicity on brine shrimp Artemia salina and its specificity on H. pylori; determine the MIC of selected fraction and its effect on growth and morphological changes of H. pylori in batch culture; and finally , determine the probable chemical identity of compound in the selected fraction. The plants were extracted by using solvents started with petroleum ether followed by chloroform, methanol and water. 148 extracts from 32 plant species were used to screen for anti H. pylori activity by using disc diffusion assays. All the plants species showed anti H.pylori activity based on the presence of inhibition zone.
