The research instrument was designed based on the ideas derived from the instruments used by Gronlund (1973), Tuckman (1975) , Swezey and Pearltein (1975), Landen (1976), and Popham (1978). This instrument consisted of three parts. Part A assessed oh the aspects of teacher . . .I" demography/ part B, on teacher understanding and part C on their practice of CRT. The part of the syllabus involved in this study was unit 13. The data was analysed by using descriptive statistic and inference statistic. The descriptive stastistic was employed to find the frequency, percentage, standard deviation, t-value' and f-value. The inference statistic was used to find the value of to determine the goodness of fit. The finding of this research shows that the teachers' level of understanding of the criterionreferenced test (CRT) is in the range of 41% to 53%. This shows that they possess a medium level understanding of aspections of contents, objectives, question construction, analysis, administration and usage of test results. The results on matters relating to practice showed that there is a low percentage of teachers involved in the practice of CRT that is in the range of 21% to 28%. The res~lts on the differences among the teachers in terms of understanding and practice the CRT shows that there ·are differences due to sex, age, teaching experience and attendance in the school based achievement assessment courses.
