This study aimed at developing an Instrument of Adversity Quotient (IKBAR) among polytechnic students using a Rasch Model. This study also investigated the relationship between Adversity Quotient (AQ) with Intellectual Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ), Spiritual Quotient (SQ), and academic achievement. CORE model was used in this study by emphasising the four important constructs in AQ, namely Control, Ownership, Reach, and Endurance. A total of 1,845 students from five Malaysian polytechnics were selected using a proportionate stratified multistage cluster sampling. The items were tested twice and analysed using WINSTEPS 3.71 software. The findings revealed that 66 items met all the assumptions of the Rasch Model. The AQ variable showed a significantly moderate positive relationship with EQ and SQ variables, while there was no significantly positive relationship with IQ variable. Instead, the AQ was found to have a significantly weak positive relationship with the academic achievement. Hence, this study contributed in terms of the IKBAR instrument that could be used by polytechnic institutions to identify those students who are weak in their AQ to guide and improve themselves. In terms of implication of this study, it opened the room for the students to perform self – assessment for themselves and for their colleagues based on the AQ measurement items developed using the Malaysian polytechnics context.en_US
