dc.description.abstractFemale participation in the global workforce has grown dramatically over the past number of decades. In Malaysia, the attitude towards female board of directors (BOD) among the society is still undergoing a rapid change from its strong traditional religious and cultural norms to modern values about female. This study investigate the impact of having female on the board of directors (BOD) and work-life balance (WLB). The relationship between gender balance in the BOD is examine to see if it would result in negative, positive or neutral effect on company financial performance. With the increasing amount of female participation in the BOD, the presence of WLB has become essential. This study examine how WLB impact and provide assistance to female BOD who seek to avail themselves of it. By using Feminism Theory, Agency Theory and Resource Dependence Theory, it investigates the characteristics of female BOD and WLB on the impact of company financial performance. The study uses content analysis to analyse the independent variables influence on company financial performance. The independent variables such as ratio of female BOD, female BOD experience in NGOs, female BOD number of working experience, female BOD age, female BOD human capital and WLB are selected as proxy and their influence on the company financial performance. The results exhibits that, female BOD experience in NGOs and WLB have significant positive relationship with the company financial performance. As an overall, this study showed that this topic is still novel in Malaysia.en_US
