Abstract
This dissertation gives a review on the understanding of leadership in the construction context. Fiedler's contigency model was used as the starting towards identifYing leadership on site. Changes in factors which influence the implementation of management on site has also an impact towards the management style adopted . Therefore this research aJso includes a study on these factors and its impact on the leadership concept at the construction stage on site. Analysis was based on q uestionaire . This dissertation also examines the concept of leadership , and focuses on contigency approach. Fiedler's model was chosen because it has a good history in past as model used in construction industry . This model was used to identify the leadeship approach of the site manager and their group atmosphere. The report initially begins with definitions of leadership and its evolution together with its application in the site management. The Loughborough Study and other similiar studies conducted earlier was used and focused as guidance to achieve the objective ofthis research . Following this , their hypotheses were abstracted and tested towards the respondents in this research. Before this application was done ,the model were modified according to the nature of our construction industry. Later this hypotheses were compared with the findings of field work , manually. Eventhough the findings ofthis research shows a difference in leadership orientation between our site managers and the respondents of earlier research but there are more similiarities compared to differences between them. Finally a number recommendation are made for further development of research in the field of leadership particularly in construction industry
