Abstract
Educational supervision is a dominant activity to increase the professionalism of
teachers. In implementing the supervision, headmasters have to use the right, suitable
and effective technique. This will guarantee that the supervision is well-received and
applied in the teaching and learning processes.
This study was designed to investigate the effect of individual supervision
technique and group supervision technique toward the improvement the teaching quality
of teachers in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri, Medan-Indonesia
This study employed a quasi experimental design using two experimental and one
control goups. A sample of 7 5 teachers were selected using purposive random
sampling from teachers in three senior high schools (Madrasah Aliyah Negeri) in
Medan-Indonesia
The sample was divided into three equal- groups. Group 1 (Rl) was given the
treatment of individual-supervision technique, group 2 (R2) was given the treatment of
group-supervision technique, and the third group was designated as a control group
(K). The data were collected through a questionaire develoved by researcher based on
questionaires from previous researches. The questi01maire has a reliability index of
0.92.
The data were analyzed using simple, one- way Analysis of Variance (Anova)
followed by post hoc comparison. The result of this S!UdY indicate that there are
significant differences at 0.05 level between mean score of treatment group 1 and the
score mean of treatment group i and also the mean score of control group in the ability
and motivation aspect. But there are no significant differences between the mean .score of treatment group 1 (R 1) and the score mean of control group (K) in the code of
ethics.
It means that individual-supervision technique (R 1) and group-supervision
technique (R2) are not comparable. The group-supervision technique (R2) is obviously
more effective than individual-supervision technique (R 1 ). It is proposed that group
supervision technique is very suitable to enhance the teaching quality of teachers of
Madrasah Aliyah Negeri Medan-Indonesia in tenn of their ability, motivation and the
code of ethics.
