| dc.description.abstract | This study seeks to determine the impact of perceived transformational leadership of principals on the productivity of teachers using questionnaires developed by Poon (1995) regarding transformational leader behaviours in the Malaysia context. Factor Analysis has extracted 4 dimensions of leadership behaviours, that is, motivational support-individualized consideration, integritydynamism- justiceship, visionary and work facilitation-empowering-charismatic behaviour. Results from 112 secondary school teachers in Georgetown, Penang, indicated significant relationship between perceived transformational leadership behaviours and teachers' productivity. But, the only dimension ofthe transformational leadership behaviours that showed significant relationship with productivity is motiv~tional support-individualized consideration. This study also seeks to determine whether followers' personal values have any add-on impact in the above relationship. Interestingly, personal values of followers did not interact with the relationship. This implies that irrespective of what values teachers hold, a principal who practises motivational support-individualized consideration is able to enhance the productivity of teachers. The implication of this study is that principals must practice motivational support-individualized consideration in order to boost teachers to a higher level of productivity. Future training for principals must also focus on the elements of motivational support-individualized consideration. | en_US |
