Abstract
The anticipation of energy shortage that is bound to occur in 20 years time is
perceived as a big threat to human civilization. The decrease of oil reserves.on
the global scale is believed to be affecting the mobility of humankind in
accomplishing their daily tasks. The consumption of oil especially for
transportation is happening at a very rapid rate. As a result, congestion and
pollution of the environment have been identified as the two key consequences
due to uncontrolled usage of natural resources. In view of this, several concepts
of sustainable town planning have been presented. Variation of the mixed land
uses has been claimed as more efficient because it minimizes human movement.
Nevertheless, there are also claims whereby the socio-economy plays an even
more important role in determining the travel pattern of people. Therefore, the
aim of this research is to study if the variation of the mixed land use will influence
the travel pattern. This study is was based on the analysis of polls conducted on
the people of the town of Bayan Baru. The data collected is analyzed using
descriptive statistics method and the travel pattern of the citizens has also been
mapped. It was found that the travel pattem were. not restricted to one factor only
due to its subjective nature.
