Abstract
According to International Labour Organization (ILO) ergonomics is application of the human biological sciences in conjunction with the engineering sciences to the worker and his working environment, so as to obtain the motivational well-being of workers based on increasing work satisfaction, motivation and decreasing stress and tension. This thesis focuses on the study of ergonomics application in work system on motivational well-being among VDT workers in Malaysian manufacturing industry. The first method is a survey that carried out in order to identify the level of ergonomics awareness, the level of implementation of ergonomics program and the percentage of ergonomics team in Malaysian manufacturing industries. The second method is a case study that has been done at two manufacturing industries with different scores level of ergonomics awareness. The objective of the case study is to identify the effect of ergonomics application in work system on motivational well-being of VDT workers using observation and questionnaires methods. The result in survey shows that the ergonomics awareness in Malaysian manufacturing industries in a moderate level. Lack of information, knowledge and training about ergonomics and no pressure to implement ergonomics program are two main factors to obstruct organization in implementing ergonomics programs in their industry. Meanwhile, the level of implementation of ergonomics program in industry is still low. While, only 11.1% of the respondents were organizing ergonomics team in industry. The result in case study shows that application ergonomics in Tool factor will give major influence to respondent increase work satisfaction, self motivation, increase performance, safety and health.
