Abstract
There are seven Quranic verses that urge on kindness to parents, obeying them
without demur in everything good and warn against ungratefulness to them even with
the least word of contempt (even Fie). They are interpreted like this by the companions
of the Prophet (sahabah), may Allah be pleased with them, and deduced by the
interpreters of Quran from those verses. Currently it is noticed that many Quranic
studies dealt with those verses. Most of them are characterized to be repetitive and
standstill. A Quranic study could hardly be found devoted to the focus on the
methodology of Quran or the style by which Quran addressed the problem of
unkindness to parents. The style, which is accompanied by enjoining and forbidding,
has the good effect on helping the adult to halt at the enjoining and forbidding and it is
so effective in treating unkindness to parents. This problem should not be studied
without the Quranic style. The current research is an analytical study that focuses on
pointing out the Quranic method in addressing the unkindness to parents through the
above-mentioned verses. The researcher also aims to contribute in extracting some
treasures of this miraculous Book, and to be also added to the voices which seek
achieving the core of unkindness to parent's treatment verbally, practically, and
preachingly. In order to carry out these objectives, the researcher focuses on the
above-mentioned verses as interpreted by Tafsir scholars connected with deducing the
meaning and directions which are concealed in these verses, and how it carries in its
meaning the various Quranic styles in addressing unkindness to parents. The most
important styles which the researcher addresses are as follows: 1- the style of
recommending to be good to parents, 2- the style of enjoining to be kind and courteous
to parents, and 3- the style of stirring up the sons' sentiment towards parents. The
researcher also deduced the conclusion that Quran put forward the preventive solution
for treating the problem of unkindness to parents such as bringing up children to be
kind to parents, highly estimating and praising the care of the Prophets – peace be on
them - for their parents and recorded a lot of their instructional and praiseworthy deeds,
and mentioning the punishment against the one who is unkind to his parents and the
favour for the one who is kind and courteous to them. This is called 'the style of
promise and intimidation' by the researcher.
