Abstract
The objective of this study is to determine the extent of quality implementation in Indonesian manufacturing organizations. The quality perception from manufacturer point of view is first identified. This is followed by the identification of quality implementation levels measured by the critical success factors such as leadership, information and analysis, process management, customer and vendor relationships, human resource management and strategic planning. This study also identified the use of quality technique ancf tool, and quality implementation barriers faced by the respondents. The samples in this study consist of manufacturing organizations in Indonesia with I 00 or more employees and/or with annual turnover of Rupiah 50 billion. A total of eighty-six responses were received and out of this, 78 were acceptable, representing a useable response rate of 24.16 %. The findings show that there is significant difference in quality perception between samples of different ownership. In addition, critical factors, which are believed to have an impact on the success of quality implementation show significance difference in information and analysis and process management between respondents who had ISO 9000 and those without ISO 9000 certification. The highest barrier faced by the organizations is the human resource factor. Other factors identified as barriers to implementing quality are management, raw material, machines. and equipment, attitudes towards quality, information, finance, training, method, culture and interdepartmental relationships.
