Abstract
Given the importance of sustainable entrepreneurship among SMEs for the economic well-being, social impartiality and environmental resilience of Malaysia, this study examined the relationships between entrepreneurial orientation, sustainability orientation, entrepreneurial bricolage and sustainable entrepreneurship from the lens of Resource Based View, Upper Echelons Theory and Corporate Social Responsibility. A total of 102 responses were collected by means of a survey instrument gathered from SMEs located in Penang and Perak of Malaysia. The data collected were analysed using Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The results indicated that while the entrepreneurial orientation is associated with the degree of sustainable entrepreneurship, it is mediated by the role and degree of entrepreneurial bricolage that SMEs brought to solve problems. However, entrepreneurial bricolage did not mediate the relationship between sustainability orientation and sustainable entrepreneurship. This study provides theoretical, practical and social contributions that are valuable for future research and for practitioners with regards to the importance of sustainable entrepreneurship among SMEs, with respect to the heightened societal and environmental awareness among consumers, and also strict international regulation concerning environmental protection. Limitations aside, this study offered and enriched sustainable entrepreneurship literature to further research, especially in the context of SME.
