Abstract
Climate change has become an increasingly important issue. The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between firm characteristics, firm ownership and business network towards climate change mitigation activities in Malaysia. Content analysis is used to obtain the climate change mitigation activities. Five main themes were measured using the weighted and un-weighted weighting schemes. They are; mention of global warming or of the Kyoto Protocol, Fim1's plan to deal with global warming and objective to control global warming, potential cost to achieve global warming objectives, current cost to reduce the green house gasses (GHG) emission and information on the extent of GHG emissions (Fredman and Jaggi, 2005). The 2009 annual reports of 100 companies from seven industry memberships was selected. Out the 100 companies, 3 5 were members of a sustainable business network in Malaysia. Multiple Linear regression was conducted to test the relationship between the independent variables and dependent variables. Size, Profitability, Government Ownership, 'Industry membership and business network were found to be significantly positively related with the climate change mitigation effort. Foreign ownership were found to be negatively related. ~. ::However, it was insignificance on the climate change mitigation effort. Business network was I ~ound to have the most significance relationship and T-Test was conducted to further analyze the ~ariable. Results showed that members of the business network are better in climate change ~ ... nuttgatiOn effort compared to the non members.
