Abstract
Vacuum circuit breaker is a typical type in the medium voltage distribution switches, and the internal pressure (P) in the vacuum interrupters affect the performance of the and life. Thus, VI performance and life expectancy will drop if the internal pressure is increasing. The pressure was set at 130 Pa to 2600 Pa in order to simulate the leakage of the VI. However, the electrical field distribution in the VI under low pressure level is not well known. In this project, the simulation is developed to model rated VI under different pressure level in order to find the relationship of the electric field distribution with the pressure level inside the VI. The electric field of the distribution of VI is investigated using Finite Element Method (FEM) software, Comsol Multiphysics. As a result, the electric field intensity inside the VI is increasing when the pressure inside the VI is drop due to the electric field is inversely proportional to the permittivity. Furthermore, the electric field distribution inside the VI are concentrated on the bellow of VI. Lastly, this project will give better understanding for the electrical engineer to design a better VI.
