dc.description.abstractThe harmonious relationship between human beings and their environment has stirred reaction to contain nature with the development of mind and action. The interdisciplinary approach that consist of psychology, sociology, anthropology and history has been used in understanding human thinking and behaviour. Psychological approach is meant to evaluate the choices and needs. Sociological approach details the various patterns in the social organization. Anthropological approach is tied with culture and beliefs to fulfill human needs which are based on their habitat. While historical approach looks at the development which is related to the past. Experience, order and logic, appropiateness of choice and expression become a dimension in the bamboo craft of Malay society at Kampung Jal Kechil. Constitutive symbol, moral symbol, expressive symbol and cognitive symbol that exist have been interpreted based on theoretical framework that has been developed; Langer Art Theory and Parsons Social Theory. The concepts of equilibrium, exploration and communication in craft are explained in the above mentioned theories. The values and meaning that are formed are interpreted to solve matters related to the lives of villagers that are connected to nature and society. The implication is that bamboo craft expresses the Malay mind and character in the sociocultural of Kampung Jal Kechil.en_US
