Abstract
The behaviours portrayed by youths are generally influenced by the knowledge they receive. This is in line with the perspectives of both the Muslim and the Western scholars. Previous research, neither at the global level nor in Nusantara, did not implicate elements like emotion, motivation and attitude. Most of them focused on the concept of tasawwur in the context of Al-Quran in a thematic manner (al-mawdu’iy). Besides, the research pertaining to the conceptualisations of both worldly and spiritual aspects did not involve the mediating constructs like emotion, motivation, hablu minallah and hablu minannas attitude that predict righteous behaviour. The main goal of this study was to identify the influence of tasawwur toward the righteous behaviour of youths in three types of educational institutions in Aceh. The three types of educational institutions are Salafi, Khalafi and Senior High School/Vocational School. All the variables were built in the model of Worldview and Righteous-Behaviour, which were analysed by the PLS-SEM to identify the relationships and influence of the tasawwur aspects through the mediating constructs. One way ANOVA and T-Test was used to identify the different orientation aspects of tasawwur between male and female and among 10 educational institutions for the youth in Aceh. The variables built in the model Worldview and Righteous-Behaviour were divided into exogenous of tasawwur construct comprising the worldly orientation and spiritual orientation and the mediators consists of emotion, motivation, intrapersonal attitude (hablu minallah) and interpersonal attitude (hablu-minannas), while the righteous behaviour in the model was the endogenous construct. The study involved 390 respondents in 10 educational institutions with the age range of 16-21 years. The systematic random sampling and questionnaire of the modified version of Muslim Religious-Personality Inventory were employed for the data collection procedure. This study found that worldly orientation positively affects the righteous behaviour of the youths while spiritual orientation does not significantly affect the righteous behaviour of the youth in Aceh. The worldly orientation is positively associated with emotion, motivation, and intra-personal attitude (hablu minallah) as well as interpersonal attitude (hablu minannas). Similarly, the spiritual orientation, too, is positively associated with emotion, motivation, and intra-personal attitude as well as interpersonal attitude. The elements of emotion and motivation also positively affect the righteous behaviour of the youth of Aceh. The intra-personal attitude and interpersonal attitude also positively affect the righteous behaviour of the youth in Aceh. The study also found that the elements of emotion and motivation reinforce the influence of the aspects tasawwur positively toward the righteous behaviour of the youth. This study also found that the intra-personal attitude and interpersonal attitude positively influence the righteous behaviour of the youth. The findings of this research had been completed by the Muslim Religiosity-Personality Inventory model to measure the behaviour of the righteous youth. These findings suggest that the education policy and parents need to focus more on the curriculum of Islamic education that could be the basis of the form of tasawwur, especially in the context of Acehnese Islamic society. Therefore, it is hoped that the teaching resources and curriculum of Islam can be improved to hinder the youths from the phenomenon of social change which may in turn affect the cultural and religion values of Acehnese society.
