| dc.description.abstract | Editorial is a place for a newspaper to state its stand on important events and issues. Through this column, a newspaper makes its suggestion, objection and opinion. This is a content analysis of the editorials of a Malay daily, Berita Harian in 1998. The focus of this study is on the issues of Malaysian economic turmoil and. political crisis. It attempts to look at the frequencies, characteristics, direction and tendencies of editorials at a time of political and economic crises. The research findings would reflect the newspaper's policy through the frequencies of variables as stated earlier. This study also attempts to determine the overall categories of editorials within one year. The result shows that Berita Harian has focused more on economic affairs, and this category appeared frequently in the year concerned. This study suggests that Berita Harian has supported the government efforts to overcome the crises. About 90.5% of the sampled editorials show that the paper concurred with government's actions to confront this turmoil. Its pro-government stand is easily determined by the consistency of its pro-government editorial. | en_US |
