Abstract
Construction industry in Malaysia is under going drastic change in the image and the construction characteristics. The latest management techniques and advanced technology are often used to build a modem building that is increasingly complex in design and methods of construction. Clients today are placing importance on value for money and assurance for time, cost and quality. To fulfil all these criteria, the acceptance of new procurement methods other than the Tradisional approach is increasingly in this industry. The objective of this thesis is to determine the recommendation of choosing the procurement method to the clients by the architects regarding to factors or criterias that should be considered when making decision. Through this research, could be determined whether the recommendation that given is based on rational (technical factors) or other factors (non-technical). Besides that, could also be determined whether ' the Traditional method is still the choice for the architects on giving recommendation to the client or the developing Design and Build approach is replaced the method that is popular used in the industry of this country. Fieldwork study has been done on architect firms all over the Malaysia, which registered under PAM. However, only 60 firms or 6% have responded. As a result, the analysis is done only based on these 60 received questionnaires. The received data were recorded and analysed quantitatively by using SPSS. The developed hypotheses could meet the fact through this survey that had been done. The findings of the research indicate that when architect making decision for procurement selection, besides considered rationally the technical factors but also personal factor. Meanwhile, also found that the Traditional method is still the main choice that will be recommended by the architect to the client. Whilst from the perception of the architect, Design and Build method will be increasingly popular and widely accepted in the future.
