Abstract
The aim of this study is to provide an overview of the initiatives done by KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital in implementing the electronic Health Information System that will enable them to deliver the best health care and treatment to patients. This is due to high quality data with information management and information technology is essential for improved patient care and effective clinical governance. This case study conducted 11 (eleven) interview sessions with the hospital General Manager, Head of Departments , Specialist and their subordinates with intention to uncover the organizational culture, current practices, level of their readiness for digitization and their understanding of the importance of health information system. The data for this case study were collected through interviews, documents review and observation. Further analysis is done using the SWOT analysis, Root Cause analysis and benchmarking to determine the stages of digitization and cause of the slow implementation of electronic Health Information System. From the findings, the system has its own strengths and weaknesses that make it unique. In developing Health Information System, it’s important to ensure the system can work effectively and efficiently. Quality human capital, excellence support system, user-friendly and adequate training of the end-user will determine the success of implementation of the system.
