Abstract
Penang is amongst the earliest state to practice cash waqf. However, the total collection of cash waqf fund in Penang is still low and inconsistent until now. The inconsistency of fund collected can be seen from the waqif perspective itself who give cash waqf inconsistently. Therefore, the inconsistent aspect of waqif behaviour need to be studied in depth. Generally, in studying consistency behaviour there are four concept being used which are intention, belief, perception and attitude. However, Intention has become the main focus compared to the four concept and being applied in behaviour study including cash waqf behaviour. The question is, is intention influencing cash waqf behaviour? Therefore, this study aims to achieve three objectives. Firstly, to identify the concept of intention in cash waqf behaviour. Secondly, to analyse the direct relationship between factors influencing intention in cash waqf behaviour on intention and cash waqf behaviour among Muslim in Penang. Thirdly, to conclude the influence of intention on cash waqf behaviour among Muslims in Penang. The three objectives of the study were achieved using exploratory and descriptive research designs and divided into two phases. Data in this study were collected using the documentation method, semi structured interview and questionnaire distribution and were analysed with qualitative content analysis and statistical analysis using IBM SPSS statistical software and SMART-PLS. The first phase of the study has developed cash waqf behavioural intention concept based on the Islamic-based behavioural intention concept and Islamic charitable giving concept. With respect to the results, seven major constructs of cash waqf behavioural intention concept were developed, namely iman, knowledge, ability, will (intention), reward, awareness and ukhuwah were referred to a group of experts for deliberation and confirmation. Next, a questionnaire was developed for the second phase of the study. In the second phase, 395 Penang cash waqf givers were involved and with the use of IBM SPSS statistics and SMART-PLS, the result showed factors of ability, convenience, religious compliance, knowledge and ukhuwah has a significant relationship with intention while only the ability and intention indicated significant relationships with cash waqf behaviour. For indirect effect, intention is proved as mediator between the relationship of ability, convenience, religious compliance, knowledge and ukhuwah with cash waqf behaviour. Based on the finding, intention can be concluded to influence the cash waqf behaviour among Muslim in Penang as mediator.
