Abstract
As the Internet of Things becomes more of a reality, there are an increasing number of wireless and wired devices that are connected to the Internet. As telecommunications networks become more complex, modeling networks as complex systems that are flexible in the face of future advancements becomes increasingly important. Besides, the motorists and road users of Kuala Lumpur face slow traffic due to high volume of traffic and congestion every peak hours. Hence, the Internet of Things network traffic is one of the solutions to solve the traffic congestion. This project constructs the model of an Internet of Things based road traffic network by using agent-based modeling. The agent-based modeling software is called NetLogo to aid in understanding and conceptualizing about this project. Examination of these factors and performance using agent-based modeling shows that speed limit and traffic light duration has no influence on the number of stopped vehicles at traffic light, speed limit has influence on the average speed of vehicles and traffic light duration has influence on number of stopped vehicles at traffic light. Specifically, the optimized values of 0.10 patch/tick (60km/h) speed and 3480 ticks (120 seconds) traffic light duration on the number of stopped vehicles at traffic light, 0.10 patch/tick (60km/h) speed and 3480 ticks (120 seconds) traffic light duration on the average speed of the vehicles and 0.07 patch/tick (40km/h) speed and 1740 ticks (60 seconds) traffic light duration on the average wait time of the vehicles at traffic light are proposed to enhance the traffic management.
