Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the factors that may influence the intention of pre-service teachers teaching physical education using the TGfU approach during the practicum. This study also intends to find out if there is a relationship between the barriers and the intention based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (Ajzen, 2005). Furthermore, the effect of moderator variables gender and former athlete on barriers and intention was studied. This study was carried out using an online survey which yielded 437 respondents from all the Teacher Education Institutes in Malaysia who fitted the criterion of the study. The findings from this study show that the pre-service teachers do not perceive any barriers teaching TGfU during their practicum and shows high intention to adopt TGfU in the future. The only positive relationship found was between teacher mentor and intention, and gender played a positive moderating effect on Teacher Mentor as well. As teacher mentor had been found to be a significant variable in this study, focus should be given to the teacher mentor as they play an imperative role towards the pre-service teachers during practicum. Therefore, it is recommended that more studies be done in relation to the role of mentor teachers during the practicum.
