dc.description.abstract | Scabs or cankers on the surface of pumpkins are not recognized as "diseased" by ordinary consumers because these scabs or cankers are generally not softened and are seemed to be recovered after injuring. By the inoculation test, mechanical injury was the sole causal agent to induce scab and canker of pumpkin. Isolates from scabs were identified as Fusarium spp. Most of them were non-pathogenic to the known host plants. Several VCGs of F. solani were assigned and these result suggested that the isolated F. solani were belonged to independent VC groups. Molecular identification of Fusarium spp. also supported the results of morphological identification and the majority of F. solani were high homology with non-plant pathogenic strains. By the field survey, there were 2 causal agents, namely, 1. fortuitous agent by the pumpkin stem and 2. inevitable agent by stinkbugs. Mycotoxine production was examined for these fusarium isolates. Beauvericin was detected by HPLC from 2 strains of F. oxysporum and 2 strains of F.dimerum. However, it was not detected in 10 strains of F.solani and 1 strain of F.semitectum. Our result will contribute the improvement of agro-product quality from the contamination risk of mycotoxin-producing fungi. | en_US |
