Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the effect of group logotherapy counseling approach among the Iranian teenagers with depression and anxiety. This was a quasiexperimental study in the form of time series. A total of 36 students aged 14 to 17 years old studying in high schools of Shiraz, Iran, were selected through purposive sampling. Samples were divided into three groups consisting of male, female and mixed gender groups (male and female). Each group consisted of 12 members who received the logotherapy interventions. The treatment was implemented through ten 90-minute sessions, once a week. The subjects were tested after the third session (PT1), the sixth session (PT2), and also the tenth session (PT3) by using the Beck Depression Inventory and the Cattell Anxiety Inventory. The gathered data were then analyzed by means of Friedman nonparametric test, Wilcoxon test and Kruskal- Wallis test. The results of the statistical analyses indicated that the symptoms of depression and anxiety of the subjects in all the three groups had significantly decreased after receiving the logotherapy intervention sessions (p < 0.05). No significant difference was observed among the three groups. In addition, the findings showed that depression and anxiety of the three subject groups had the most decrease from stage PT2 to PT3. It was finally concluded that group logotherapy counseling approach was effective in decreasing 14 to 17-year-old high school teenagers’ depression and anxiety.
