| dc.description.abstract | This paper aims to explore the factors that contributed Penang as a centre of medical services and facilities and to study location choice factors of private hospital in Penang. Based on the questionnaire survey, this paper will study on factors of location choice, and hospital's profile in Penang Island. Through the analysis, the factors of location choice for private hospital, current scenario, type and cost of services that provided by private hospitals, and relationship or co-operation with other organisations in the medical field are identified. This paper will describe the distribution location of private hospitals in Penang Island by using the Geography Information System (GIS). With these findings, the background of healthcare services in Penang Island and private hospital's attributes is the key of success for Penang as a centre of medical services and facilities. The initiative to promote healthcare services has established a new market for Penang especially the Island of Sumatra, coming from city like Medan. Meanwhile the accessibilities and high demand is the main factors in location choice factors of private hospital in Penang. As a result of the factors, Penang Island has become one of the major medical hubs and second larger medical services and support in Malaysia after Klang Valley.
