Soft starter is an electrical device which reduces the inrush current when the induction motor starts to operate. Soft Starter is used in many applications such as compressors, blowers, fans, pumps, mixers, crushers and grinders, and many other applications. When induction motor is on, the high starting torque require in order for the induction motor starts operate. This high starting will require high inrush current. Therefore, it is very importance for the induction motor in order to protect the motor from inrush current that can damage the induction motor. Soft starter also can reduce the power losses that happen when the induction motor is on. However, there are many type of soft starter like Y-delta starting, starting via auto-transformer, starting via stator resistors, voltage control starting and frequency control starting. In this project, the inrush current is reduced by controlling the voltage. The voltage will gradually increase by controlling the firing angle of the TRIAC and the firing angle will controlled by the microcontroller which is Arduino Uno. When the voltage is increase gradually, the current also will increase gradually. Thus, this will reduce the inrush current and the motor protected. The simulation result shows that the inrush current can be reduced by increasing the voltage slowly by controlling the firing angle of the TRIAC. When voltage increases slowly, the current also increases slowly. Lastly, the soft starter can reduce the inrush current by controlling the voltage.en_US
