Abstract
The main purpose of this research is to improve the communication network of Anti-Lock braking System (ABS) by modified the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus in MATLAB Simulink. ABS is an important safety control system in vehicles. Therefore, the communication network in the system must be able to transmit the message within a bounded time. Different network configurations of CAN simulation models with 3 nodes, 10 nodes and 70 nodes are constructed to compare and analyze the performance in terms of packet delay and jitter. Increasing number of CAN nodes will degraded the performance of CAN network. Therefore, CAN model with 3 nodes has the lowest average packet delay of 0.1151 ms and lowest average jitter of 13.01 μs. Next, distribution methods of CAN models are then modified for data packets input to improve the performance of the real-time application. Two types of distribution method are used to compare the performance with the original distribution which are Weibull distribution and Beta distribution. However, modified CAN models with Beta distribution method have better results than original Exponential distribution and modified Weibull distribution. Lastly, ABS control system model is implemented in original and modified CAN network models as application system. The average packet delays of Beta distribution CAN models with application of ABS control system is improved up to 27.53 %, while, the average jitters are improved up to 76.93 % compared to the original application model. From the research, modified CAN models with application of ABS control system are more consistent and reliable compared to the original CAN application models.
