Abstract
The adoption of ICT for construction site management in the developing countries like Nigeria remains weak and data cannot be exchange efficiently due to some obstructions caused by certain factors. Therefore this study aims at assessing the perception of Nigerian contractors on ICT adoption, as well as to identify the factors that are influencing ICT adoption for construction site management in Nigeria. The objectives of the studies are: To assess the extent of ICT adoption among contractors for construction site management in Nigeria; and To examine the relationship between culture, policy, cost and contractors ICT adoption decision for construction site management in Nigeria. The first objective was pursued through descriptive statistics. The second objective was attended through the use of correlational studies and multiple regression analysis in conjunction with hypothesis test. The targeted respondents were Nigerian contractors that belong to category A to D. The sample size of 519 for this study was obtained based on the previous studies conducted in the same area. The data was collected using proportionate stratified random sampling. The questionnaires that were duly completed and return by the respondents are 297 that is 57.2% response rate. SPSS version 19.0 was used for the data analysis. The outcome of the analysis reveals that, the result of the first objective shows that, the ICT adoption of Nigerian contractors is at a moderate level that is “caretakers” class. The second objective results of correlational analysis shows for the separate relationship of each item with decision on ICT adoption: organizational culture, organizational policy, and indirect cost have strong relationship, while national culture, national policy, and direct cost has moderate relationship. The inclusive relationship between the constructs and ICT adoption decision is at moderate level. Likewise the result of the multiple regression analysis shows all the factors makes contribution to ICT adoption. Then this study reveals that ICT adoption of the Nigerian contractors is influenced by culture, policy, and cost, because of the relationship that exist between them, which are in consistence with that of the previous studies. Therefore, this study may serve as a guide to the Nigerian contractor‟s construction firms when introducing a new technology to make adequate provisions for these factors.
