Abstract
Nowadays, the shortage of manpower in the field of nurse and doctor has become a critical issue which is still existing and yet to be solved. The shortage of nurses causes issues such as providing critical diagnosis on patience or providing assistance for the emergency cases. One of the factors causes nurse shortage is inconsistency of incoming patients. Nurses and doctor might have to deal with an increase or a fluctuation in the number of patient each day, while there is also a chance where nurses are unable to perform their daily task due to exhaustion or sickness. Inefficient in resource allocation is also a factor causing the ineffective usage of manpower during critical moment. Due to many manpower and administrative constraint, it is hard to optimize the schedule of each nurse with the correct amount of workload. This project presents a controllable robotic arm via Internet of Thing, nurse can control a robotic arm remotely to assist doctor to take care of the patient and pick and place task with a robot arm. In case of emergency and help was needed from a nurse/doctor who was off-duty, they could access the robotic tool remotely and perform their designated task from other places with internet connection. In this system, smart phone will be used to control robotic arm. Accelerometer and gyroscope are used to capture gesture and posture of the smart phone. The signals of accelerometer and gyroscope will be capture by an Android app and send to Raspberry Pi to control robotic arm. By integrating Internet of Thing, a worldwide controllable robotic arm can be achieved. Android application will be developed using Android Studio. Python script will be employed in Raspberry Pi to develop a program that able to control robotic arm and receives command from smart phone. A system with kinematic model will be used in Raspberry Pi to control robotic arm. Besides, a video streaming from computer is implemented to monitor the robotic arm. Overall, this project is using Internet of Things to control a robotic arm.
