dc.description.abstract | This study analyses indoor thermal and building envelope performance of the Kampung Laut Old Mosque (KLOM). The KLOM is the oldest mosque in Malaysia built in the 16th century and it is still intact and served as a mosque for the local people. The objectives of this study are firstly to evaluate the thermal performance of the KLOM which is designed based on traditional Malay architecture. The second objective is to identify the performance of the building envelope elements at the KLOM in terms of air temperature. Through the literature review, the study investigates the main keywords which are the thermal environment, the building envelope and the building performance simulation (BPS). The methodology for this study is a quantitative method building case study by using manual measurement and building performance simulation (BPS) on thermal analysis. In the manual measurement method, three thermal environment variables which are the air temperature, air velocity and relative humidity were measured. For the BPS method, the performance of four building envelope elements which are the roof, external wall, openings and floor were simulated at the Main Prayer Hall namely the Zone 1 by using the Ecotectâ„¢ computer program. The results show that the comfort condition of the thermal environment which consists of air temperature, air velocity and relative humidity cannot be achieved simultaneously in the KLOM. On the other hand, the building envelope configuration of the KLOM which used local material performed the best in air temperature performance. The study concludes that the thermal environment performance of the KLOM is not as excellent as expected. The study also concludes that local material with light colour is the best configuration for building envelope to be implemented to the buildings in Malaysia. | en_US |
