Abstract
The increased demand for adult computer training produces many issues and challenges
for educators and students. This study therefore aimed to extend knowledge of
examining the influence of personal traits (promoting and preventing factors) in
perceived ease of use in software training in a learning environment. The factors of
computer playfulness and personal innovativeness in IT have their origin in the theory
of intrinsic motivation, and are considered to be promoting factors and computer
anxiety that has its origin in the social cognitive theory is known to be a preventing
factor. The study has been done to 165 diploma students of Cosmopoint College in
three branches which are in Sungai Petanai, Penang and Ipoh prior to their experience in
IT. The findings from this study showed that only one personal trait which is computer
playfulness was found to be significant with the perceived ease of use in software
training. Whereas the other two factors such as personal innovativeness and computer
anxiety do not have any significant relationships with the perceived ease of use. The
moderating variable which is self efficacy also does not have a relationship with the
independent and dependent variables. The findings from this study showed that the
computer playfulness among students is the only factor that is most important in
perceived ease of use for any type of software training. This proves that students can
easily adapt with new technology with their characteristics that they like to play.
