Abstract
In the professional training of teachers, school practice is
considered to be an important aspect of training. The purpose of this study
was to investigate whether there were any differences or similarities in the
perceptions of student teachers, college staff and school staff when
considering the objectives of school practice. It was hypothesised that
there were no significant .differences in the perceptions of student teachers,
college staff and school staff when considering the objectives of school
practice. The findings of this study seem to support the hypothesis that there
were no significant differences in the perceptions of the three groups
regarding the objectives of school practice and the data seem to imply that
the lists of objectives and rank order of objectives would be useful to
guide curriculum decisions regarding school practice.
Although the hypothesis of this study was supported by the data,
detailed analysis and discussion seem to reveal that there were
differences of perceptions that might be due to different needs, roles
and role expectations of the different groups of people in school practice. This study suggested that the lists of objectives and its rank order
would be useful for selecting learning experiences for student teachers,
and the study of the differences in the needs and role perceptions would
help to clarify the issues and problems of school practice. The study also
gave some suggestions regarding the aspects of self evaluation by student
teachers, supervision and assessment by college staff and the cooperation
between college and school.
