Over the years, steel has been dominantly used as the material for reinforcement in concrete structure. However, corrosion of the conventional steel reinforcement in reinforced concrete (RC) structures poses a serious problem to the durability of the structure. The potential material that could be used in future concrete reinforcement is fiber reinforced polymer (FRP). This paper aims at investigating the effect of arrangement of reinforcement cage on the flexural performance of concrete beams reinforced using Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP). Three arrangement of reinforcement cage were identified in this study which are square shape, triangular shape and double triangular shape reinforcement cage. Comparison was made with conventional steel reinforced concrete beam as control specimen on the aspect of ultimate load, load-deflection behavior, load-reinforcement strain behavior, cracking behavior and mode of failure. The experimental results show that the arrangement of reinforcement cage has significant effect on the flexural performance of beam specimen. In term of ultimate load carrying capacity, concrete beam with triangular shape reinforcement cage could sustain the highest load. The average ultimate load carrying capacity of GFRP reinforced concrete beam with square shape and double triangular shape reinforcement cage are only 65.5% and 39.2% respectively of average ultimate load carrying capacity of GFRP reinforced concrete beam with triangular shape reinforcement cage. As compared to control specimen, beams reinforced with GFRP rebars experienced lower load carrying capacity, lower stiffness, larger deflection and less number of cracks. The failure of the GFRP reinforced concrete beams was mainly due to the rupture of the GFRP reinforcement.en_US
