dc.description.abstract | This thesis examines the functions of Peran in Makyong performance with respect to the elements of rituals, dance, music, acting and narration. The Peran plays a significant role in the Makyung performance as a narrator, actor, jester and directs the flow of the dramatic action of the play. A significant part of understanding the role of the Peran as "awang" and "pengasuh" requires the examination of the training and preparation of this character. The role of awang is like a servant responsible for the menial chores in I the palace while as a pengasuh he assumes as advisory role to the prince, king. As a Peran he must be adept in playing the musical instruments, singing, dancing, acting and proficient in the martial arts. He must also be versed in the role of a shaman as he is required to perform the various ritualistic ceremonies in a Makyung performance. This thesis testifies to the importance and integral role of the Peran in Makyung Performance. | en_US |
