Abstract
Rapid development has changes the city dramatically in many ways especially in
economics, socials and culture. These changes give a big influence and effects on
Malaysian taste and interests. Fast food is one of the established and a fast growing
business in Malaysia. In matter of facts, it sets a new trend of eating habits among
Malaysian especially to Malaysian youth. Therefore, this research was done to find the
pattern of spending on fast food and it was focused on students because the majority of
them are youth. Further more, this research will show the current economic growth on
fast food in Malaysia. A research on the buying power was also implemented to see the
relations on Malaysian spending habits. The facts that fast food is categorize as one of
the franchise business that have more than one branch. The main campus of Universiti
Sains Malaysia had been chosen to be the research area because of the respondents is
the students that are studying in this campus. The methodology in this research was
based on both primary and secondary data through surveyors on questionnaires to gain
information on buyers characteristic. This method was used because it was the effective
way to control standard and quality of the questions. In the analysis part, descriptive
analysis and hypothesis has been test. The results show that, significant has existed
between demography of the respondent which influence the level of expenditure to fast
food and the increased percentage of student expenditure on fast food. This output has
been discovered by comparison between the previous and the current research.
