Abstract
According to the World Health Organization, malaria currently affects 300-500 million people worldwide, of which more than 90% of these cases occur in sub-Saharan Africa and are responsible for over one million deaths each year. Anopheles maculatus is the main vector for this disease in Southern Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia. The mosquito gut constitutes a barrier that the parasite must cross if it is to develop and be transmitted. Therefore, this thesis describes the proteomics approach used in the initial investigation work on the biochemical aspects of the gut proteins of Anopheles maculatus by gel electrophoresis and de novo sequencing.
