Abstract
Small and Medium Industries or more commonly known as SMI has played a major role in Malaysian's growing economy in the past few decades:- There are total of more than 50,000 SMI companies in Malaysia. However, according tc SMIDEC, with such a huge number of Malaysian SMI companies, only 30 per cent of those have implemented Information Technology (IT) System and have Web presence in their daily operation of the company. Compared to 80 per cent of IT-savvy SMIs in Europe and United States, Malaysian SMIs are still lagging behind in terms of IT system. Therefore, they are losing out their competitive advantage over their IT -savvy counterparts in Europe and United States. The main objective of this study is to assess the intention of use of Information Technology based system by owners/managers in Malaysian SMI to perform business transactions in their organization. Specifically, this study focuses on the use of web-based Supply Chain Management (SCM) system to conduct business transactions amongst S?vIEs, other bigger organizations, their suppliers and customers. This is essential as intention of adoption of IT system specifically web-based SCM would greatly affect the success of implementation of web-based SCM in Malaysians SMIs/S?vIEs. In this paper, we would focus on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) to study factors affecting the adoption of IT speci ficall y web-based SCM in the SMIISMEs.
