- PublicationEffect of the crosslinker on the mechanical and thermal properties of polyelectrolyte films for lithium-ion batteries(2024-08-02)Abdurrahman Bin RidzuanThis study explores the impact of crosslinkers, specifically Ethylene Glycol Dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and Methacrylic Acid (MAA), on the mechanical and thermal properties of polyelectrolyte films for lithium-ion batteries. Utilizing poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly(butyl acrylate-co-styrene) (PBA-CO-S) nanoparticles functionalized with lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI), the research aims to enhance polymer nanocomposites' performance in mechanical and thermal application. The methodology includes the emulsion polymerization of seed particles and polyelectrolyte emulsion, followed by film casting and characterization using techniques such as Malvern Zetasizer Nano ZS for size analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis for thermal studies. Tensile and hardness test underwent to characterize the mechanical properties of the polyelectrolyte film. The study found that varying concentrations of EGDMA and MAA significantly influence the mechanical and thermal properties of the PMMA and PBA-CO-S films. These findings offer valuable insights into optimizing polymer nanocomposites for improved mechanical strength and thermal stability, paving the way for more efficient and sustainable energy storage solutions.
