Abstract
This thesis describes the development of an Excel program for power system load flow analysis. Load flow analysis is important for the power system to ensure the electrical power transfer from generators to consumers through the grid system is stable, reliable and economic. Excel worksheet is used in this project to provide the economical and low storages program since the Excel is a basic application provided by Microsoft® for calculation works. In this Microsoft® Excel worksheet, the method of Newton Raphson is chose as a technique solution to compute the real and reactive power flows in equipment such as transmission lines and transformers, as well as equipment losses.
These methods are applied to the load flow problems to allow the problems being solved, by adjusting the power or voltage levels, line impedances, and also the parameter of the solution methods. The development of this program starts after the study of theories in load flow analysis and the Newton Raphson method as the solution technique was conducted. After that, the construction of the formula begins using the functions provided by Excel. From the result of this program, users should be able to find the power flow from one bus to another bus and the power losses at transmission line. This program is a fundamental tool for practicing power system engineers engaged in system planning, operation and control. It may be used also as an alternative material for the lecturer in teaching the load flow analysis topics.
