Abstract
New technologies for improving the efficiency of transformers are being developed as consumers demand more energy-efficient transformers. The main task in this project is to design and manufacture a high efficiency single phase transformer which can produce the desired power output base on the supplied current and is functioned as step down transformer. The author designs to step the voltage down from 240V to 120V using ferrite core E55/28/21. Meanwhile this project begins with literature review in order to the author to get more understanding about the transformer. Then, manual calculation using related equations such as Faraday’s law is to determine size of the conductor and turns for primary and secondary side. After that is manufacture process, all the calculations are implemented to produce the transformer. Lastly, is testing which insist of with load test, open circuit test and short circuit test. Efficiency is determined during the load test which the power output in divided by power input. The efficiency of this single phase transformer is about 88.7% with reasonable cost. The constraints and overcoming the obstacle in completing this project will also be described. Recommendations to further improve the design are presented at the end of this report.
