Abstract
The objective of this project is to design and develop a mobile floor cleaner robot that is able to operate autonomously and by remote control. In the automatic mode, the robot is able to perform its cleaning task autonomously. Human assistance is only needed to start and stop the robot. In the remote control mode, human input is needed to operate the robot. The operating domain of the robot is limited to small and medium-sized room. The main cleaning mechanism of the robot is a battery-operated vacuum cleaner that sucks up dust and small debris from the floor. Two direct current (DC) motors, controlled by two H-bridge motor control circuits drive the robot. The robot uses a Programmable Interface Controller (PIC) as the microcontroller. Infrared (IR) and touch sensors are used to enable the robot to receive inputs from its surrounding. The robot uses radio frequency (RF) transmitter and receiver circuits to receive command from the human operator in the remote control mode.
