Abstract
As manifested by the title, the main objective of this Final Year Project is to design Ka-band Low Noise Amplifier for radio frequency (RF) application using CHA2494-QEG. It is designed for a wide range of application, from military to commercial communication systems. From datasheet, this circuit is manufactured with a pHEMT process, 0.15µm gate length, via holes through the substrate, air bridges and electron beam gate lithography. This design is using Advanced Design System (ADS) to design the layout and operates in higher frequency range from 34 – 44 GHz. In Radio Frequency (RF), a good LNA should has sufficient gain, low noise figure, good impedance matching, achieves linearity and stability besides consumes a minimum power. Thus, the development of LNA contributes a lot in efficiency and quality of the receiver. This design is implemented on PCB board which is a physical mounting and connects to the circuit components. In this project, the materials of typical board used are Rogers Ro4003 because it's suitable for high frequency range. The selection of components such as a surface mount of capacitors of 10nF and k connector is used to be implemented on the PCB board. As a conclusion, the result of LNA is measured by analysis of gain when increasing the input frequency from 30GHz until 40GHz. Finally, this design is tested at 4V/120mA of power supply by using Signal Generator and Spectrum Analyzer equipment to view the overall performance of Ka-band LNA.
