Abstract
Generally, Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) used in this project to monitor the environment in the agricultural sector in different areas. WSN technology and Internet of Things (IoT) systems are important in the agricultural sector because they can improve the crops production, intruder prevention, monitoring and crops profitability. WSN is able monitor the progress of the crops and provide real time data to the farmers without going to scene. The unpredictable weather, and environmental factors like temperature, rainfall, and soil moisture are the major problems that faced by this industry due lack of advanced management and maintenance. Thus, the main objective of this project is to implement a handy and effective wireless sensor network using Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) wireless transmission for agricultural monitoring system. The second objective is to develop an agricultural monitoring system that can gather and track data from a range of agricultural areas and different access distances until reaching the maximum limit of data transmission. The third objective is to use an IoT-based technique to measure, analyze and monitor agricultural parameters using electronic devices. Because of that, many sensors have been used in this project such as temperature sensor and moisture sensor to measure the temperature and humidity of the surrounding air. These sensors are connected to ESP32 microcontroller module that acts as gateway for data collection. There are five units of ESP32 microcontroller are used to build one gateway node and four access points in this project, which are two units of ESP32 with 30 pins and three more units of ESP32 with 38 pins. For software design, Arduino IDE is used to create the algorithm that can achieve the wireless data transmission based on CDMA protocol. Moreover, ThingSpeak and ThingView are implemented to achieve IoT applications. As a result, an effective and reliable smart agricultural monitoring system was successfully built and overall that all three objectives are achieved by the results obtained in this project.
